Our opinion

A secret place, somewhere you don't discover by chance. Hidden away in the Vosges forest, which covers vast stretches of mountain, the house stands out in the middle of a clearing, as if it has always been part of the landscape. Vast without being imposing, topped with a tall, broad, red roof and adorned with green shutters on its half-timbered façade, it welcomes visitors with distinction and simplicity. This welcome extends to the interior, where a cosy atmosphere pervades every room. Everything is designed to ensure that everyone feels right at home, enveloped in gentle warmth when the weather turns cooler. La Maison Forestière knows that the call of the forest is powerful and that it has a responsibility to provide a refuge after long escapes into the surrounding countryside.

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

I discovered Northern Alsace during short breaks from my working life and fell under its spell. As a landscape designer, I'm particularly drawn to its calm, authentic environment. Here, nothing is overdone, nothing is staged, everything is real. Over time, I started to make more and more weekend trips here. Today, I live and work in the heart of this unique region, surrounded by warm, genuine people and a natural environment that could hardly be more inspiring for my creative work. The Maison Forestière Fischeracker has become a favourite place, a retreat that embodies exactly what I love about this region: peace, space and authenticity.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

This half-timbered manor house dates back to 1870 and is located in the heart of the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park. It is located in a sunny clearing, surrounded by old trees, meadows and a preserved sandstone wall. The quiet, secluded location, in the midst of this natural environment, creates a retreat of rare beauty. With its château-like appearance and typical Alsatian character, the house exudes a special warmth and elegance. Inside, the rooms are flooded with light, with wooden floors and fine parquet that creaks underfoot. The red regional sandstone that gives the house its character is also found in the historic wall that surrounds the vast grounds.

What is its history ?

Built around 1870 by Baron Domenque de Dietrich, the house, hidden between gentle hills, fragrant mixed forests, vast meadows and a crystal-clear lake, is a carefully preserved former hunting and forestry lodge. After being damaged during the Second World War, it was restored in 1954 and subsequently became the hunting lodge and retreat of Princess Claude of France. In 2013, the house became an integral part of the Jaegerthal estate. We have transformed this place full of character and timeless beauty steeped in history, into a guest house that we have furnished with art and a palpable historical flair.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

It is a retreat full of calm and inspiration, an authentic and touching refuge, the perfect place for anyone seeking authenticity. The surrounding area is a paradise for nature lovers, food lovers and those keen to discover new things. Here, there's no need for special activities; the real rest is to be found outdoors: walking through tranquil forests, cycling along clear streams or picnicking with views of lush green meadows. Inside, the light and airy rooms, furnished with antiques and works of art from our private collection, give the house its special charm: radiant, refined and welcoming.

Places you would personally recommend

There are hiking trails that start right outside the door. Cycling and horse-riding trails wind through shady valleys, and golf enthusiasts will find one of the finest courses in the region in Bitche. Culture lovers will be enchanted by castles such as Fleckenstein and the historic towns of Wissembourg, Saverne and Niederbronn. Art lovers will find inspiration at the Lalique Museum or the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden. When it comes to food, Alsace du Nord is at its best, with Michelin-starred cuisine at the "Villa René Lalique” in Wingen-sur-Moder and the “Cheval Blanc" in Lembach. Those who prefer privacy can enjoy the cuisine of a top regional chef or a talented fellow traveller at the Maison Forestière.
